Worldgroup 3.1x and prior, as well as MajorBBS 6.x, are no longer supported products. Please call 301-498-7797 to upgrade to the latest version.

Updated Web Interface
=====================
This upgrade provides a complete overhaul to the web page interface of the Worldgroup baseline modules. Various bug fixes and significant look-and-feel changes were implemented. By far the most important change is the addition of a new module, Dynamic Text Variables, that you can use to completely change the look (primarily colors) of wg site with the simple change of a CNF option. This add-on is meant as a short-cut tool for a sysop to be able to make global changes to Worldgroup Active HTML pages without a lot of hassle. You simply define a new text variable name and assign it some HTML code. See documentation for this in the inftvsys.doc file

Replacing our logo with yours
=============================
Simply replace the file in webpages\images\logo.jpg with your own and all web pages will immediately reflect the change.
New Forums
======================
In this version of Worldgroup, we've replaced the forum web pages that use "forum groups" with just the list of forums. We found that many users were too confused with the idea of groups. On the other hand, if your users can deal with it, then by all means use groups. The directory "\galacth\forums with groups\" is the original forum web pages with groups. Simply replace the current \galacth\galforah\ with this one.

E-Mail address and Password hint on Signup
==========================================
You can optionally prompt users to enter their e-mail address and/or a password hint when they create their account. This feature is only available for the web interface. CNF option SENDWEL allows you to send a welcome message to new users external e-mail address (with their userid and password) upon signup.

Lost Password Option on Login
=============================
When an Active HTML login fails, the user is given the option to receive their password via email (using either their User-ID or alternate email to look it up), or to view their password hint.

Passed Onsuccess paramater in sign-up allows multiple welcome screens
=====================================================================
After signup (when the user hits submit) the next displayed page can be determined using an onsuccess parameter. Generally, the standard display of the WELCOME.HTM will service most needs. But perhaps you'd like the user to be taken directly into a service after they sign-up, or have a different welcome screen displayed depending upon which sign-up link they initially clicked. Use the "OnSuccess=" html parameter in the /signup link and append the name of the page to display after the = sign.

For example, if you wanted a user to immediately fill out his registry as soon as he signs up, set your signup link to look like this:
/signup/supform/?onsuccess=/registry/view/editform.htm?edit

Users Signing up are automatically logged in
============================================
Previously a user would have to re-enter his userid and password

Additional Signup questions now stored in database
==================================================
You can use the WGSRPT utility to dump these questions to a text file for import into an external database.

User Export to Database Utility
===============================
The utility WGSRPTU can be used to dump the user account database, including the additional signup questions, to a comma delimited format for easy importing into external databases. The filename created is USERLIST.TXT.

The program can be run either from Windows or the command line. It can also be run WHILE Worldgroup is running, allowing you to do a real-time dump. You can also run the program from a Batch file for export during nightly cleanup (typical usage).

The first line of the file is the column header names. Fields are contained in double-quotes and separated by commas. You can change the delimeter character with the -D runtime option (WGSRPT -Dx) where x is delimeter you wish to use.

Web Refferals now tracked
=========================
The referrer log (referrer.log) records the URL of the site from which the visitor accessed the your Web page. A typical entry to the referrer log, showing the requesting page on the left and the requested page on the right, looks like this:

http://www.somesite.com/cgi-bin/WebQuery -> mypage.html.
Watching search engines and search terms is helpful in maximizing your search rankings. Knowing the search terms used to find your site may yield insight into changes needed in META tags. Knowing who has links to your page can tell you what marketing strategies are working.

Remote Sysop Additional Control Panel
=====================================
Added web page links for easy access to add-on management services (polls, Teleconference, forums, library, etc.)
The new url link is /control/index.htm

HOSTDENY.TXT supports IP ranges
===============================
You can now enter an IP address range. For example:
207.243.141.28
199.227.16.0-199.227.16.255

The first line specifies a single IP address.
The second line specifies a range of addresses.
Efficiency in file processing was also added.

Improved default web template
=============================
Better looking index.htm in webpages

FIND users dialog provides links
================================
The Find User HTML dialog display now allows username to be clicked and it will populate the parent form.

Live help - with video
======================
Many web sites are now adding the ability to 'click here to talk to a sales (or tech support) live' using services from companies such as Humanclick, or Live Person. Now you can provide similar services WITH VIDEO. All those other services just let you type back and forth with a live rep. Now with Worldgroup, they can see the rep too!

The installation files for this option are in the \galacth\galwebv\ directory for your worldgroup server in a file named LIVEHELP.ZIP. To install simply unzip (with directory structure intact) in your worldgroup root directory to replace appropriate files in \galacth\galwebv and webpages\chathelp.

Caveat: Should you do this, you will completey replace the current Web video interface. You can't have both at this time.

SMTP Set to stop spam by default
================================
We set the configuration for SMTP to be closed (rather than open) for a default installation of Worldgroup. This should help in the fight against spam mail. If you are upgrading your system you should consider setting the CNF option SMTDLOCR to YES.
